Orchid Knoll is a romantic and unique 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath mountain top home was built in 1997 from hand cut native stone and wood. Living & Dining: The exquisite hand rubbed French doors and windows, tiled floors, white cathedral ceilings combine well with a wrought iron couch with upholstered sofa cushions, 2 easy chairs and an eclectic blend of carefully selected furnishings and accessories to create an intimate and warm living room. If you need additional warmth, which is not likely, one of the centerpieces of the living room is a working fireplace. A 32 in. flat screen smart TV, an iSymphony FM stereo and wireless internet are provided.
Kitchen: You may dine inside at the formal dining room table seating 6-8 or take advantage of the superb views on the tiled upper deck at the table seating four.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped and includes a 4 burner stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, blender, drip coffee maker, toaster and a fine selection of dinnerware, cookware, and server ware. A washer/dryer is also provided.
Bedroom Details: The cozy master bedroom (queen), with air conditioning, a walk in closet and a tiled bath is on the upper level. This bedroom has excellent down island views of Tortola and the BVIs and it opens to a small deck through screened sliding glass doors. The master bedroom faces east and also contains a desk and an upholstered chair for late night reading or writing. On the pool deck level, the guest bedroom (2 twins or king) also has a/c, a tiled bath and faces east to capture the first rays of the rising sun.
Orchid Knoll enjoys a dramatic mountain top location on the peak of Bordeaux Mountain. Bordeaux is St John’s highest mountain, and at an elevation of 1200+ feet this charming villa offers majestic 320 degree views and excellent (clothing optional) privacy and tranquility. Although Bordeaux is slowly being developed, it is still a pristine, peaceful location that offers an abundance of unspoiled tropical beauty and tranquility. The house itself was built on a ridge line and was skillfully designed to capture the spectacular beauty of its surroundings, including an awesome view that includes St Croix to the south, St Thomas (west), Jost Van Dyke (north), Tortola, (northeast) and Virgin Gorda in the east. This is the most panoramic vista that we offer, and it’s really spectacular. It’s a 15-18 minute drive into Cruz Bay, 10-15 minutes into the smaller town of Coral Bay and a 10-15 minute drive to the National park beaches.
INTERNET SERVICE: The internet service is subject to frequent interruption. We cannot guarantee internet quality or speed. Renters might find it convenient to travel with a cellular carrier MiFi – a couple of examples are AT&T and Virgin Mobile. There will be no refunds due to the internet not working.
PHONE SERVICE/CELL PHONES: Local phone service is interrupted regularly and in spite of our efforts to reinstate service it can sometimes take weeks. AT&T is the only cell service we find operates efficiently on the island. If you do not have AT&T we strongly suggest you bring a pay as you go AT&T cell phone with you as we do not provide cell phones should the local phone service be interrupted.
POOL FLOATS: Pool floats are not guaranteed with your villa rental. If you want access to them, please bring them with you.

March 2024 – We’ve been renting Orchid Knoll which is at the very top of Bordeaux Mountain for almost every year since it was built. From the large veranda you have magnificent (260 degree) views of the Caribbean (San Juan, St.Thomas, Yost VanDyke, Tortola, Peter Island and Virgin Gorda. I also love the outdoor shower with great views by the pool. There are two indoor showers for the more modest guests. Being in the middle of the island we have good access to Cruz and Coral Bay and all the beaches in between and beyond. Yes, a lot of driving. In short, we love this place!
August 2023 – Thank you for such detailed information upon booking and prior to our arrival. Orchid Knoll is definitely a spectacular villa! We really enjoyed relaxing and enjoying the view there as a family. My husband is a hobby oil painter and painted this picture of the villa from a picture he took. I wanted to share and am hoping you can pass this along to the villa owners to see and please tell them how much we enjoyed staying at their home. We now enjoy a painting of Orchid Knoll hanging in our home to spark our wonderful memories.😘
July 2022 – If you want peace, quiet and killer views…this is the place! Away from the crowds, but with great access to all of St. John, Orchid Knoll was a joy. Would stay again, and highly recommend.
– The house is wonderful. Excellent design, construction and attention to detail. Completely private. So many places to relax, including the large porch (covered and un-covered), next to the pool, and inside with the warm breezes flowing through screened doors and windows. The views to the east, north and west are magnificent. Enjoy sunrises, moon rises and sunsets, views of the BVIs, St. Thomas, and yachts and sailboats in St. John bays. The evenings are glorious with so many stars and chirping tree frogs. The location is great for exploring the north, east and south beaches. This is the perfect place for a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway.

Orchid Knoll has all one needs to make a trip here most enjoyable, the pool area is a nice reprieve each and every day if you are coming back from the beach, the kitchen is equipped for you to prepare most anything you desire. One should know that the nights high a top Bordeaux Mt. can be very cool at times, however there is a fireplace if you need it. The owner has an incredible library of classical music that is an added treat.
We will return to this magical spot high a top St. John, for us it fulfills the very reason we continue to love this island.
