Location.Ellison is located in the exclusive Virgin Grand Estates, which is a neighborhood of recently built, luxury vacation homes. Like its neighbor South Palm, Ellison has a picturesque view over looking Great Cruz Bay, the Caribbean Sea, Dog Island, the St James Islands, St. Thomas and other islands. You’ll also enjoy colorful sunset views and at night you can see the twinkling lights of southeast St. Thomas. As of February, 2008, Ellison is the only house on its drive and with no abutting neighbors Ellison enjoys a pleasant feeling of seclusion, even though South Palm is 3 lots to the east. This desirable location is peaceful and quiet, and private enough for discreet clothing optional sunbathing. Ellison faces southwest, so you’ll have sun on the pool deck from morning to sunset. Although you don’t view or hear the Westin, it’s only about a ¼ mile walk, and we think you’ll find a few reasons - the beach bar, boat rentals, a massage, fitness facilities, shops - to wander down the hill. Walking back (up) to your villa takes a bit more effort, but of all the Virgin Grand Estates villas, Ellison (and South Palm) have the easiest walks to the Westin. The many restaurants, bars, shops and other delights of the village of Cruz Bay are a 10-15 minute drive, entirely on paved roads.

Design.Ellison’s design uses 3-levels of living space to create a valued sense of privacy and spaciousness. You park on the ground level in the front of the villa and ascend a set of stairs to the pool deck level. The large tiled pool deck (830 sq/ft) has the pool and a half bath. Another set of exterior stairs leads up to the 2nd level. This level contains the 680 sq/ft great room with living, dining and kitchen facilities, plus another half bath. Two master bedrooms are also on the 2nd level. The east master bedroom is on the left side of the great room (looking at the water), while the laundry room and the west master bedroom are on the right. A 60 foot covered deck, complete with deck furniture and exterior dining, runs the entire length of the 2nd level. A 3rd set of stairs takes you to the 3rd level with the upper master bedroom/ bath, private balcony and the best views.

Living/Dining. The Great Room combines comfortable furniture with classic features such as tiled floors, a beamed cathedral ceiling and screened sliding glass doors. There’s a satellite TV/DVD plus a stereo with CD.

The interior dining area is in the great room and has a wooden table that seats 8. On the covered deck off the great room there is another table and chair set that seat 6.

Kitchen. This is a handsome kitchen with cherry cabinets, granite countertops and tiled floors. Stainless steel appliances include a refrigerator/freezer, 4-burner electric stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, and plenty of cookware and dinnerware. A 12 foot granite bar with barstools separates the kitchen from the dining room, and there is a gas grill just off the kitchen.

Bedrooms. Each air conditioned bedroom is identical in size and all face southwest to capture the views through screened sliding glass doors. All the bedrooms have king beds adequate closet space. Each has a tiled bath with granite countertops, cherry cabinets and an indoor/outdoor stone shower. The bedrooms are thoughtfully located to maximize privacy with 2 bedrooms on the 2nd level, one on each side of the great room, and the 3rd bedroom all by itself on the 3rd level. All towels and linens for 6 people are included.

Caribbean Villas Comments. Ellison generated some excellent reviews when it was orginnally rented in 2008-2009 and we expect the same to be true in the future. Everyone liked the undisturbed and seemingly secluded location - we say seemingly secluded, because South Palm is 3 lots to the east and the Westin is a 5-minute walk down the hill.
Nonetheless, as of April 2012, Ellison still has one of the most peaceful and private sites within the exclusive Virgin Grand Estates. We also like the 2-deck design with a large sunny deck on the 1st level and a large shaded deck on the 2nd level - something for everyone, and both with lovely views and comfortable deck furniture. This is an excellent home for 2-3 couples, or honeymooners or lovers looking for a romantic and seemingly secluded, but also convenient, location.

• We had an amazing time on our honeymoon in St John. The villa was fantastic and the highlight of the trip!! We really like the privacy of Ellison. Only issue we had was a minor problem with the range failing. When we come back, we will be seeking to stay there again. Nancy was a huge help and responded quickly to any issues or requests!! Internet Service: The internet service is subject to frequent interruption. We cannot guarantee internet quality or speed. Renters might find it convenient to travel with a cellular carrier MiFi – a couple of examples are AT&T and Virgin Mobile. There will be no refunds due to the internet not working.
