LOCATION. Coconuts is located on Gifft Hill, in a picturesque setting 750 feet above sea level, with panoramic ocean views of up to twenty islands, stretching from French Cap to the north of Pillsbury Sound, and as far as Vieques and Puerto Rico. The sunset and evening views are spectacular, undoubtedly some of the best on the island. The daytime views are also mesmerizing and as the sun arcs across your horizon, the vibrant seascape before you continually changes colors. The hilltop location of Coconuts also means gentle breezes and sun on your very private pool deck from 9 AM to sunset - this is definitely a sun lover's villa (the gazebo, billiard porch, pool and a/c bedrooms provide relief, if you need it). The restaurants and shops of the fascinating village of Cruz Bay are only a 10-minute drive away, entirely on paved roads. The grounds include a flat driveway with ample room for several cars, a majestic Flamboyant that blooms all summer, gently sloping side and front lawns, mature fruit trees, and lush tropical landscaping.

DESIGN. [Note: Coconuts was extensively remodeled, refurnished, and refinished in 2010 and 2011 .] Coconut’s is a close cousin of Sea Wind and Palm Villa, and as with these villas it is a handsome example of traditional Caribbean architecture. As you walk through the entry doors, framed by large coconut palms, you step into a lovely tropical setting of sea, sky and villa. The four hip-roofed buildings are centered around a solar heated pool and are connected by decks, covered walkways, and patio gardens. The great house is a two-level building that contains the great room, the dining room, a full bath and a loft bedroom. The kitchen and the great house are on the left side of the pool, and the master and guest bedrooms are on the right side. With the exception of the loft bedroom and a new lower sundeck, all of Coconuts (driveway, entrance, pool, main deck, kitchen, great house, and the master and guest bedrooms) is on a single level, readily accommodating seniors or handicapped guests. A large hip-roofed gazebo on the right side of the main deck shelters a lovely outdoor living and dining area, with outstanding ocean and sunset views, as well as an outdoor sound system. The billiard porch is on the left side of the main deck, and features a full sized pool table, with a table tennis conversion top, and an outdoor kitchen, with a built-in gas grill, fridge, sink, Teppanyaki cook surface, illuminated bar, granite counter dining and outdoor speakers. The pool is solar heated, and at night, the pool light slowly changes colors, with its diffuse hues illuminating the courtyard. The seven-person hot tub is mounted flush with the main deck, and offers panoramic ocean and sunset views. The addition of wide, gentle stairs down to a new lower sundeck provides unobstructed “infinity deck” ocean views from the entrance, pool, and deck chairs. Exposed beam cathedral ceilings with ceiling fans, French doors, interior gardens, arched and screened windows, terra cotta tiled floors throughout, soft romantic night lights, and spacious decks create an inviting and relaxing tropical atmosphere in this well furnished and very charming home.

LIVING/DINING. The interior living room (great room) has recently been completely refinished. With its beamed 25 foot cathedral ceilings, arched windows, and tasteful and comfortable furnishings, this a lovely place to unwind. The new, state-of-the art entertainment system includes a front projector with 100" screen, dual rattan swivel-glide recliners, and a Blu-ray player with an extensive movie library of over 50 titles, a 40" flat-screen TV, HD cable with a DVR and HBO, and a new sound system with subwoofer and an iPod dock. Coconuts features the latest in WIMAX 4G wireless internet, providing smoothly streaming video to your laptop, tablet, or phone from any room or deck location. With the provided universal memory card reader, guests can watch their photos and videos in the evening, on either the TV, or projected on the "big screen". For stargazing, or just checking out St. Thomas and the islands and boats in Pillsbury Sound, there's a pair of binoculars, as well as a 110 mm refracting telescope. Outdoor living areas include the main pool deck, the gazebo with its couch, chairs, and outdoor sound system, the new billiard porch with its pool table, outdoor kitchen and sound system, and a new large lower sundeck with wrap-around bench seating. All four of these expansive outdoor living areas provide the perfect spot to read, relax, and watch the sun drop into the ocean. A hammock deck to the side of the gazebo provides a great place to watch sunsets, or observe the stars.

Coconuts offers an array of dining options. Inside, the dining room seats 6-8 in a casually elegant setting in the great house. Outside, one of St. John's best tables for sunset cocktails or dinner views is reserved for your party under the gazebo at a wicker and glass dining table for 6. There is also a breakfast/lunch umbrella table for 4 on the lower sundeck, and granite counter dining for 6 at the outdoor kitchen on the new billiard porch. Water throughout the villa is fully potable, with both UV sterilization and activated charcoal filtration.

KITCHEN. Coconuts is one of the few villas that offers guests two distinct kitchens. The fully enclosed (indoor) main kitchen was refinished in 2010, and is located in a hip-roofed building behind the great room. The main kitchen equipment includes a dishwasher, microwave oven, four burner gas stove with oven, refrigerator, toaster, blender, coffeemaker, an extensive set of Penzeys spices, a complete assortment of pots, pans, utensils, and kitchenware, and a flat screen TV. It also includes a tiled bar with bar stools for hanging out and entertaining the chef. The second kitchen (outdoor) was added in 2011 on the new billiard porch. It houses a built-in gas grill, fridge, sink, Teppanyaki cook surface, illuminated bar, granite counter dining, outside speakers and fantastic views. A separate laundry room with a washer and dryer is located next to the indoor kitchen.

BEDROOMS. The large glass doors of the master bedroom open onto the pool and gazebo decks, and provide gorgeous views. Furnishings include a king bed, two dressers, 32” flat screen TV with Blu-ray player, a premium cable package with HBO, ceiling fan, nightstands, lamps, rugs, artwork and other accessories. A fully tiled master bath includes a garden shower, closet, his & her sinks, and a locking safe. The poolside guest bedroom has a queen bed, 32” flat screen TV with Blu-ray player, a premium cable package with HBO, a dresser, a ceiling fan, an adjoining tiled bath with shower, and a closet. Both the master and guest bedrooms feature whisper-quiet split air conditioning systems. The 3rd bedroom is a loft bedroom with both a queen and a twin bed, which is accessed by stairs from the great room. The loft bedroom features quiet, split A/C systems adjacent to each bed, which is enabled for parties of five or more and operates from 8PM to 8 AM. The tiled bath and shower for the loft bedroom are off the great room. All three bedrooms feature tabletop music players with iPod docks.

CARIBBEAN VILLAS' COMMENTS. In 2011 the new owners of Coconuts completed the extensive remodeling and expansion of this popular rental home. Coconuts has pretty much been reborn, and it is now considerably more charming, comfortable and appealing than before. We can say this with complete assurance, for Caribbean Villas has been renting this villa since it was first built. Based on reviews from recent guests, it appears that Coconuts has become one of those magnet villas where people get so comfortable, relaxed and attached to the house that sometimes they don’t explore the delightful island that surrounds them. With it’s endless list of enjoyable vacation amenities, such as a heated pool and sunset hot tub, complete indoor and outdoor living, dining and kitchen areas, an exceptional interior and exterior audio-visual system, not to mention fantastic views, privacy and cozy intimacy, it’s easy to understand how you would want to spend day after day at your villa. However, you are on St John – the most beautiful island in the Caribbean, so we strongly recommend that you push yourselves to escape the totally relaxing force field that surrounds Coconuts, and get out and explore the National Park and the many hidden treasures of this lovely island. We’re quite comfortable in stating that you won’t be disappointed the pleasures offered by the island itself, or your villa.
With a pool and decks that get sun all day, and large outdoor living, dining and kitchen areas under roof cover, Coconuts will please sun lovers or shade dwellers. The child friendly railings, adjoining bedrooms, and sophisticated entertainment features make this a good choice for families. With its majestic sunset and evening views, soft night lights, warm breezes, and a great indoor and outdoor sound system, Coconuts is also a romantic and intimate love nest that we recommend for honeymooners, couples, or lovers of any age. Like St. John itself, this villa just keeps getting better.

• My family returned last night from an incredible week on St. John. The island was beautiful with its great beaches, hikes, panoramic vistas, etc. But, beyond these, the stay at Coconuts was fabulous. Please thank the owners on our behalf for providing so many wonderful amenities to truly enhance our vacation. We loved the indoor/outdoor living -- even the occasional drizzle was not a problem. There was so much room for the 4 of us to enjoy each others company or to find a quiet spot for privacy. The outdoor kitchen tepanyaki grill was fantastic for preparing eggs for breakfast or stir-fried vegetables for dinner. We used the pool for cooling off and the hot tub for relaxation. The billiard table provided hours of family fun, and the projection screen and movie library was great for the lazy evenings at home. The gardens were lovely and the labels on the plants were very clever and informative. The instruction booklet for the villa was complete, with easy to follow directions. The bird feeders on the gazebo attracted hummingbirds, and, in fact, once, as a bird was feeding, a hawk came by, swooped down and hit the feeder on the right -- knocking the feeder and hook onto the lawn below. Finally, the views from the deck were amazing throughout the day, evening and night. Thank you for making this a perfect week on St. John.

• What an absolutely gorgeous place Coconuts is! Spectacular views, a pool and a hot tub and a pool table… Seriously? Does it get better? Yes, it does: binoculars, telescope, hummingbird feeders, and a coconut for the sugar birds… perfect outdoor living. Projection TV was awesome! Watching the Patriots kick the Jet’s butt on Thanksgiving Day was priceless!!! Go Pats! Really gonna miss this place!

Renters might find it convenient to travel with a cellular carrier MiFi – a couple of examples are AT&T and Virgin Mobile. There will be no refunds due to the internet not working.

Pool Floats: Pool floats are not guaranteed with your villa rental. If you want access to them, please bring them with you.
