LOCATION. Casa YaYa is on the side of the island where St. Johnians themselves go for vacations. Casa Ya Ya is located in a quiet neighborhood high on a hill above Coral Bay (western hillside).

DESIGN. This is a truly splendid Mexican hacienda built in a classic Caribbean style - completely open to the east - with tiled floors and cathedral ceilings throughout. The gleaming hand made mahogany front door only begins to prepare you for what you will see once it is opened. Step inside and you are immediately pulled forward and out through the open east wall to one of the most spectacular views imaginable. Your eyes are drawn over Coral Bay, over the East End, down the islands of the Francis Drake Channel, to the sands of Africa. This view is visible from every room in the house. Imagine watching the sunrise from your bed, or the full moonrise from the dining room table, or even counting the islands in the BVI as you do your dishes.

Drink your morning coffee in the back garden and enjoy the butterflies and hummingbirds. Don't forget to put out sugar water to attract the banaquits!
The almost constant tropical breeze keeps the house - and you - cool all day (and helps keep the bugs away at night!). Ceiling fans are in every room for that rare still day.
The splash pool is 5 feet deep with two reclining tiled seats facing "TheView".

LIVING/DINING. The great room and large deck combine naturally to form a very unique living/dining area. The heavy wood dining table with leather upholstered carved wood chairs seats eight under the delicate wrought iron chandelier. The many-pillowed couch and chairs provide comfortable seating for reading, relaxing , watching videos on the 27" TV, or listening to music on the radio/tape/cd system. The Caribbean inspired design of Casa YaYa incorporates glassless 10 foot window/doors that create a delightful indoor/outdoor environment. If you spot storm clouds on the horizon (the weather comes in from the East), press a button and electric roll down shutters seal off all the rooms.

BEDROOMS. Casa YaYa consists of 2 master bedrooms plus a cozy loft. A king-sized four poster carved bed (one Mexican with Toucans on each post, and one French Provincial) is in each of the two master suites and are draped with mosquito netting. Both master bedrooms have excellent views and access to the large deck. A colorful painted sunset with hummingbirds and toucans decorate the queen-sized bed in the very private loft which is accessed by a sturdy Captain's ladder. Both tiled bathrooms are spacious and airy.

CARIBBEAN VILLAS' COMMENTS. Casa YaYa is surely one of the most unique houses on St. John. The name says it all - "Casa", or "house" in Spanish, describes the cool, inviting, open, architectural style. "YaYa" is a Taino word (the Tainos were an early native tribe on St. John), and it means "spirit of spirits", referring to the feeling of floating above the Virgin Islands, looking over the world below.

It is only minutes from the restaurants and shops and beaches around Coral Bay - although it is certainly tempting to just float in the pool and not leave Casa YaYa at all! This is a very comfortable house for 1 or 2 couples and the loft provides a 3rd bedroom for families.
