LOCATION. Orchid Villa was built on a dead end road with very little traffic in the exclusive and quiet cove called Klein Bay. Klein Bay is a small neighborhood of luxury homes located in the eastern corner of the larger bay known as Rendezvous Bay, on St. John's Caribbean coast. As of the spring of 2006 only a third of the lots in Klein Bay had been developed, so this area retains much of the unique beauty, privacy and peacefulness that are the essence of St. John. Ditliff Point is the peninsula that curves south into the Caribbean to form Klein Bay. The low hills of Ditliff soften the trade winds to insure gentle breezes and tranquil, crystal clear waters. As of 2006, all of Ditliff Point remains undeveloped and your view of the Point is beautiful and unspoiled. Two beaches provide swimming, snorkeling and kayaking among reefs dotted with brightly colored fish, sea fans and other sea life. A 5-15 minute swim or snorkel takes you to the usually deserted white sand beach on Ditliff Point, or you can swim and snorkel at the tranquil pebble beach below you. Although Cruz Bay is only a 10 minute drive on paved roads, very few tourists come to this lovely, pristine location.

DESIGN. This 3 bedroom, 3 bath villa was built in 1991 and has been maintained in very good condition. Orchid is a two level design with most of the living space located on the lower level. You park on the upper level and walk down tiled stairs to the tiled pool and sundeck which are located in the middle of the villa. On the left is the great house with living and dining rooms, the kitchen, and a loft bedroom accessed by interior stairs. On the right is another 2-story building containing the upper and lower master bedrooms, each with a tiled bath and garden shower. There are covered decks off both master bedrooms and the dining room, and a sundeck around the pool. Oleander faces south and the pool and sundeck are bathed in sunshine all day.

LIVING/DINING/KITCHEN. The living room is a tasteful statement of casual elegance with an exposed beam cathedral ceiling, ceiling fans, and terra cotta tiled floors accented by colorful rugs and Henry Link rattan furniture.
The formal dining room opens onto the pristine views and seats six at a glass topped table surrounded by six high backed cushioned rattan chairs. A private covered dining deck with Tropitone furniture seats 4-6 and offers a wonderful spot for a casual breakfast or lunch. At the pool deck an umbrella table seating 4-6 provides a third dining area.

The sparkling white tiled kitchen is crisp, modern and well equipped with a GE gas stove and oven, a refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, double white ceramic sinks with garbage disposal, a built-in microwave, a GE dishwasher and a toaster, blender, coffeemaker and toaster oven. The cupboards are filled with a tasteful collection of china, dinnerware, cooking utensils and kitchen implements. A gas BBQ grill is on the deck and a washer/dryer is located in a separate utility closet off the pool deck.

BEDROOMS. The west wing contains two air conditioned bedrooms (kings), which are equal in size and furnishings. Each contains a Henry Link white wicker bedroom set, including nightstands with Chinese lamps, a chest of drawers and a desk and chair. Both have a 20" cable color TV/VCR for private viewings, and a telephone to call your business associates to tell them that you're never coming home. A set of screened 6' opening doors lets you awake to soft breezes and lovely views. A private deck with deck furniture is an ideal retreat to watch the sunrise over morning coffee or to enjoy a private evening cocktail. Each bedroom adjoins a fully tiled bath with ceramic sinks and tiled garden showers. Varnished cedar stairs lead to the fully carpeted 3rd bedroom with twin white wicker beds, matching nightstands, lamps, 2 chests of drawers, a large closet and a standing curio. Arched screened windows provide a wonderful view of the Caribbean and a ceramic tiled bath with shower, vanity and mirror adjoins the loft bedroom.

CARIBBEAN VILLAS’ COMMENTS. Orchid and its sister home, Oleander, were built in 1991 by the original developer of Klein Bay. As developers often do, this one kept two of the choicest lots for himself, then sold off the remaining land and built Orchid Villa. Jump ahead to 2006 and it becomes very apparent that the choices for the location, design and construction for Orchid were well made.
Orchid Villa offers quiet relaxation, picturesque views, and moderate privacy in an intimate setting of exclusive (2-4 million dollar) vacation homes. Other great features include; easy access to calm, sparkling clear waters that offer delightful swimming, snorkeling and kayaking; the soothing background music of ever so gently breaking surf; an orange sun and a shimmering moon rising out of the sea before you; colorful ever blooming flowers and landscaping that envelope the house; 2 A/C bedrooms with king beds, private decks and TV/VCRs, stylish touches such as Italian marble around the pool, arched windows, and tasteful artwork; and a very competitive price.
If Orchid is not available (availability for Orchid Villa) for the dates you desire, check the availability for Oleander. Oleander is Orchid 's next door neighbor and its design and furnishings are very similar. For groups wishing to rent neighboring homes with a total of six bedrooms, Orchid and Oleander are the perfect pair. For 1-2 families, honeymooners, lovers and all who desire just one lovely home in a beautiful waterfront setting, Orchid has been a consistent guest favorite and is highly recommended.
