Location. Chateau Margot occupies a quiet and very photogenic mountainside location on Bordeaux Mountain, about 1000 feet above the small town of Coral Bay. The house shares the same stunning views as those of the photo overlook at Chateaux Bordeaux, and the fabulous views are some of St John's most famous and most photographed. The view stretches for 15 miles and includes the East End of St. John, Tortola, Norman Island, Virgin Gorda and numerous British Virgin Islands strung out along the Sir Francis Drake Channel. There are no abutting neighbors, so Chateau Margot is blessed with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. It's a 7-mile drive into Cruz Bay on paved roads on either Centerline Road, which runs through the mountains, or along the coast on the exceptionally scenic north shore drive. The half dozen restaurants, grocery store and gas station in Coral Bay are a 10 minute drive along paved roads, while the acclaimed Chateaux Bordeaux Restaurant is a 3-minute drive or a 10 minute walk. The National Park beaches at Maho Bay and Frances Bay are also a 10-minute drive. The access to Chateau Margot is entirely on paved roads.
Design. This spacious luxury estate (6100 sq. ft of interior space) consists of 3 masonry buildings that are connected by wooden walkways and paved paths. The main (entrance) level of the 3-story great house contains the living, dining and kitchen areas, the deep water pool, a tiled sun deck, and a fully equipped office. The master bedroom/bath and 2 guest bedrooms and bath are on the upper level. Overlooking the main house is a detached guesthouse with a 1-bedroom suite, while a 2-story guesthouse with 2 bedroom/2 baths is beside the main house. Chateau Margot is a unique design that incorporates abundant stonewalls, gorgeous landscaping, lots of potted plants, fishponds, fountains, tiled decks and other features that give this home a feeling of taste and refinement.
Kitchen/Dining/Living. The modern kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals for many people. It includes a countertop stove with a grill, 2 convection ovens plus a microwave, D/W, kitchen bar, toaster, coffeemaker, etc. A washer/dryer and gas barbecue grill are located off the kitchen. A lovely garden dining room is located beside the kitchen and seats 4-6, while the table in the main dining room seats 8-10 and a table on the pool deck seats 4-6. The spacious tiled living room includes a 37" cable color TV/VCR and a Bose Wave stereo and CD player. Two walls of screened sliding glass doors afford excellent views and open from the living room to the sun deck and the pool.
Bedrooms. In the great house, the lavish master bedroom (king bed) and bath contain a/c, 30" cable color TV, a massage lounge chair and a private deck with delightful views. The huge master bath includes a bidet, a whirlpool tub, make up vanities, a coral stone shower for 2, and a large walk in closet. The middle bedroom (queen) is beside the master bedroom and also has a/c and a deck with great views. The other end bedroom (queen) shares a tiled bath with the middle bedroom and also includes a cozy private deck. The arrangement of the 3 upper level bedrooms in the main house makes them desirable for families with children. In the 2 level guest house, both bedrooms have queen beds and tiled baths and the lower bedroom has a small work/study area. Above the great house, a stone path leads to a very private and romantic guest house suite with a queen bed, full kitchen and dining for 2, and a balcony with great views. All the bedrooms have a TV/VCR for viewing movies, but only the master bedroom and the living room have cable TV.
Caribbean Villa’s View. This is definitely not your average rental villa. To begin with, Chateau Margot is not really a villa, it's a spacious 6 bedroom, gated luxury estate, complete with a roomy main house and two separate guesthouses. This impressive estate occupies a 4-1/2 acre secluded lot with well maintained tropical landscaping and an abundance of privacy and tranquility. At an elevation of over 1000 feet the down island views are breathtaking, and the access road is fully paved.
