Afloat, with a spectacular view
Location. This luxury villa enjoys a spectacular mountain top location on the peak of Bordeaux Mountain. Bordeaux is St John's highest mountain, and at an elevation of 1200+ feet this superb villa offers exceptional down island views and excellent (clothing optional) privacy and tranquility. The view overlooks Coral Bay, the east end of St. John, the Sir Francis Drake Channel and many of the British Virgin Islands. It sweeps from Jost Van Dyke in the northwest, past Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Peter Island and the other islands that line the Channel to the southeast. This is an unusually pristine and peaceful location that offers an abundance of unspoiled tropical beauty. Despite being in an away from it all location, the Mountain House is less than a five minute drive to an excellent restaurant (Chateau Bordeaux). Itís a 15-20 minute drive into Cruz Bay, 10-15 minutes into the smaller town of Coral Bay and a 10-15 minute drive to the National park beaches.
Design. The Mountain House is a gated estate that consists of an elegant stone and masonry main house plus a large guest house. The 2-level guest house is off the parking area and has two bedrooms on the upper level that share a bath and a covered deck. Tiled stairs lead from the guest house up to the main house. The 2 1/2 level main house has the living room, kitchen and guest bedroom/bath areas on the middle (main) level. A half level below the kitchen and living room are the dining/pool lounge plus the pool and tiled sundeck, all of which are accessed by interior and exterior stairs. The large master bedroom/bath plus the media room are on the upper level, also accessed by interior tiled stairs. A large wrap around covered deck adjoins the living room. The attractive interior of the main house reflects the casual elegance of an upscale island villa, with stone walls, arched mahogany French doors and windows, beamed cathedral ceilings, terra cotta tiled floors and pleasing and comfortable furnishings, antiques and accessories.
Kitchen / Living Room / Dining Room / Media Room. The kitchen at the Mountain House is exceptionally handsome; if youíre redesigning your own kitchen, hereís an excellent idea lab. The custom mahogany cabinets are just beautiful, and theyíre perfectly complimented by the stone walls, polished granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and the tiled floor. Itís also very well equipped, with a 4-burner Viking gas stove and oven with a ventilator hood, a s/s microwave oven, a s/s refrigerator/freezer, s/s microwave, s/s dishwasher, a refrigerated wine rack, and much more. Overall, this kitchen is both elegant and functional; youíll love it. The washer and dryers is in the guesthouse.
The living room is quite attractive with its stone walls, tiled floors, beamed cathedral ceilings and mahogany doors and windows. A stone archway serves as an entry to the kitchen and a stone working fireplace adds an elegant touch to this lovely room. A covered porch wraps around the living room.
In the main dining room, the mahogany banquet table seats 10-12. There is also a comfortable sitting area/lounge off the dining room that is perfect for cocktails, after dinner drinks or poolside lunches (the pool and sundeck adjoin the dining room). The dining room also includes a gorgeous built in s/s gas barbeque that is 10 feet from the table, so get ready to grill!
The media room is on the upper level, down the hall from the master bedroom. The centerpiece of the media room is a 32î flat screen TV with DVD/VCR. The media room is also where the stereo equipment is located. This room also has a small desk and a computer work station. A half bath is off the hallway that separates the master bedroom and the media room.
Bedrooms. All the bedrooms are well appointed and inviting, but the upper level master bedroom (king sleigh bed) is the largest and most elegant. The master has a private covered deck with stunning views, the tiled bath is beautiful and thereís a private exterior stairway that leads down to the hot tub. One level down, the private guest bedroom in the main house has a 4-poster bed (king), and a tiled bath with an open air tiled shower. The 2 bedrooms in the guest house (2 kings) have tiled floors, cathedral ceilings and screened sliding glass doors that open to a covered deck. These 2 bedrooms share a tiled bath and shower. All four bedrooms are air conditioned and also fully screened, and all have a satellite TV plus DVD and VCR and a telephone. The floor plan in the guesthouse (bedrooms beside each other) was designed for families with kids, but the guesthouse is also well suited for couples.
Caribbean Villas View. This beautiful home was built
in 2000 as the personal residence of the owners of a very successful
home design & build company (Sunnyrock), whose portfolio includes the gorgeous C’est
Bleu and Coco
De Mer. The Mountain House was built as a showpiece home that was used
to wine and dine clients and to display the superior quality of the
builderís
homes. The Mountain House was sold in 2005, and in January of 2006
this lovely home was first offered for vacation rentals.
